Dysport®

When it comes to smoothing out expression lines, there is no single right answer for everyone. Dysport® is a fast-acting, FDA-approved wrinkle relaxer that many of our patients prefer for its quick onset and natural-looking results. Deep Blue Med Spa serves patients across Long Island including Garden City, Babylon, East Hills, NYC, and Manhattan, and our team has extensive hands-on experience with Dysport as a recognized ASPIRE Galderma Rewards Presidential Champion, one of the highest distinctions Galderma awards to its top-performing provider practices.
Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is an injectable neuromodulator FDA-approved for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines in adults under 65. Like BOTOX, it works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles responsible for expression lines. Where it stands out is its onset: many patients begin to see results within two to three days of treatment.1

What Is Dysport?
Dysport is a botulinum toxin type A injectable that temporarily relaxes overactive facial muscles, smoothing the lines and wrinkles that form from repeated expressions like frowning, squinting, and raising the brows. It has been used in Europe for decades and received FDA approval in the United States in 2009.
One of the things that sets Dysport apart is how it behaves after injection. Its formulation allows it to diffuse slightly more than BOTOX, which can make it particularly well suited for treating larger surface areas like the forehead, where a softer, more even result is often the goal. For smaller, more targeted areas, your provider will help determine whether Dysport or another option is the better fit.2
At Deep Blue Med Spa, all Dysport treatments are performed by licensed physician assistants and nurse practitioners, under the medical oversight of Dr. Michael Dobryansky and New York Plastic Surgical Group.
How Does Dysport Work?
Dysport works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that tell specific facial muscles to contract. When those muscles relax, the skin above them smooths out, softening the lines and wrinkles that form from everyday expressions.
Using a fine needle, your provider delivers precise injections into the targeted muscle groups. The treatment typically takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of areas being addressed. Most patients describe the sensation as a mild pinch, and there is no downtime. You can return to your normal routine right after your appointment.3
Results are not permanent. Over time, nerve activity gradually resumes, muscle movement returns, and a follow-up treatment can be scheduled to maintain your results.
Treatment Areas
Dysport is FDA-approved for the treatment of moderate to severe glabellar lines, the vertical creases between the brows that deepen when you frown. Our team also uses it to address a range of other expression lines across the upper face.
Frown Lines (Glabellar Lines)
The vertical creases between the eyebrows that form when you furrow your brow are the primary FDA-approved indication for Dysport. This is one of the most common concerns we treat and an area where Dysport consistently delivers smooth, natural-looking results.
Forehead Lines
Horizontal lines across the forehead that appear when you raise your brows respond well to Dysport. Its diffusion profile makes it a strong choice for this area, helping soften lines evenly while preserving natural movement.
Crow’s Feet
The fine lines that fan out from the outer corners of the eyes when you smile or squint can be significantly reduced with precise Dysport placement.
Bunny Lines
The diagonal creases that appear on the sides of the nose when you scrunch your face can also be addressed with Dysport for a smoother overall appearance.
Brow Lift
Strategic Dysport placement can create a subtle lifting effect at the brow, opening up the eye area without surgery or significant downtime.
Chin Dimpling
An overactive chin muscle can create a pebbled or dimpled texture on the chin. Relaxing it with Dysport produces a smoother, more refined look.
Dysport vs. BOTOX: What Is the Difference?
Both Dysport and BOTOX® are FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A injectables that temporarily relax facial muscles to reduce the appearance of expression lines. For most patients, the results look virtually identical. The differences are more about how each product behaves.
Dysport tends to have a faster onset, with many patients noticing results within two to three days. BOTOX typically takes three to five days. Dysport also diffuses slightly more after injection, which can be an advantage for larger treatment areas like the forehead but requires precise technique in smaller, more targeted zones. Dysport is also dosed differently than BOTOX, so the unit counts are not directly comparable.4
The right choice depends on your anatomy, the areas you want to treat, and your history with injectables. Our team will walk you through the options and recommend what fits you best.

What to Expect During Your Dysport Treatment

Your appointment begins with a personalized consultation. Our providers take time to understand your aesthetic goals, evaluate your facial anatomy, and design a customized treatment plan tailored to you.
During treatment, a fine needle is used to deliver precise injections into the targeted muscle groups. Most patients describe the sensation as a mild pinch. No anesthesia is required, though a topical numbing cream is available upon request. For patients who want an additional level of comfort, we also offer PRO-NOX™, a nitrous oxide system that provides fast-acting relief during treatment.
The full appointment, including consultation and treatment, is typically completed in 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated. There is no downtime. You can return to your normal routine right after leaving our office.5
Results and Recovery
Many patients begin to notice improvement within two to three days of treatment, which is faster than most other wrinkle relaxers. Full results are typically visible within one to two weeks.
Some mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites is normal and usually resolves within a few days. Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area immediately after your appointment. Serious side effects are uncommon, and our team will review all potential risks with you during your consultation.
Results typically last three to four months. When your results begin to fade, a follow-up treatment can be scheduled to maintain your look.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is a good candidate for Dysport?
Most healthy adults under 65 with moderate to severe expression lines, including frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet, are good candidates. You should be in good general health, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and have no known allergy to botulinum toxin products or cow’s milk protein. A consultation with our team will confirm whether Dysport is the right fit for you.
How is Dysport different from BOTOX?
Both are FDA-approved botulinum toxin injectables that relax facial muscles to smooth expression lines. Dysport tends to work faster, with many patients seeing results within two to three days versus three to five days for BOTOX. Dysport also diffuses slightly more after injection, which can be an advantage for larger areas. The two products are dosed differently, so unit counts are not directly comparable.
When will I see results from Dysport?
Many patients begin to notice improvement within two to three days. Full results are typically visible within one to two weeks.
How long does Dysport last?
Results typically last three to four months. Individual results vary based on factors including metabolism, muscle activity, and the treatment area. Consistent maintenance treatments can help preserve your results over time.
Is Dysport painful?
Most patients describe the injections as a mild pinch. A topical numbing cream is available upon request. We also offer PRO-NOX, a nitrous oxide comfort system, for patients who want additional relief during treatment.
Are there side effects or downtime after Dysport?
There is no downtime. You can return to most normal activities right away. Some patients experience mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites, which typically resolves within a few days. Patients with an allergy to cow’s milk protein should not use Dysport. Serious side effects are rare, and our team will review all potential risks with you during your consultation.
What should I avoid before and after my Dysport treatment?
Before treatment, avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood-thinning medications for several days to reduce the risk of bruising. After treatment, avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours, do not rub or massage the treated area, and avoid prolonged sun exposure and extreme heat for one week.
How much does Dysport cost?
The cost of Dysport is based on the number of units used and the areas being treated, so pricing varies from patient to patient. Your provider will give you a transparent, personalized quote during your consultation. We never charge for areas you do not need.
Is Dysport more expensive than BOTOX?
Dysport is typically priced lower per unit than BOTOX, but the two products are dosed differently — Dysport generally requires more units to treat the same area. Most patients find the overall cost comes out comparable. The best way to get an accurate comparison for your specific goals is to schedule a consultation with our team.
