BOTOX® Cosmetic

Page Updated:

For men and women seeking to decrease visible signs of facial aging, our Long Island and NYC, New York BOTOX team is proud to provide BOTOX treatments, the most popular injectable treatment available.1 This non-surgical method of facial rejuvenation can help diminish the appearance of a range of common aesthetic concerns to create younger-looking, smoother skin. Recently, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery rated BOTOX as the top non-surgical cosmetic treatment in the United States.2

WHAT IS BOTOX?

BOTOX is a popular, FDA-approved injectable treatment that temporarily reduces the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet, providing a smoother, more youthful look. Many wrinkles are caused by the involuntary contraction of underlying facial muscles. Using an injectable formula made from a diluted form of botulinum toxin type A, BOTOX can safely and effectively relax these muscles, prevent them from involuntarily contracting, and provide you with a more youthful, revitalized appearance.

While BOTOX cannot achieve the same results as a facelift, many of our patients choose to use this injectable treatment at the earliest signs of aging to help prevent severe wrinkles from developing.

BENEFITS OF BOTOX

BOTOX offers several benefits as a cosmetic treatment:

  • Wrinkle Reduction: BOTOX effectively reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines caused by facial muscle contractions, such as frown lines, forehead wrinkles, bunny lines, and crow’s feet. It provides a smoother and more youthful appearance.
  • Non-Surgical: BOTOX is a non-surgical treatment that involves simple injections, making it a convenient option for those seeking cosmetic enhancement without the need for invasive procedures or lengthy downtime.
  • Quick and Convenient: BOTOX treatments are typically quick, taking only a few minutes to complete. This allows individuals to schedule appointments during their lunch breaks or other busy periods.
  • Minimal Discomfort: BOTOX injections are relatively painless, with most individuals experiencing only mild discomfort during the procedure. Topical anesthetics can be used to further minimize any potential discomfort.
  • Natural-Looking Results: BOTOX provides natural-looking results; it helps to soften wrinkles and lines without freezing facial expressions, allowing individuals to maintain their natural range of movements.
  • Versatility: BOTOX can be used to address various aesthetic concerns, including forehead lines, glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), crow’s feet, and even certain medical conditions such as excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) or chronic migraines.

However, BOTOX is a versatile treatment that can also address various concerns beyond cosmetic wrinkle reduction. It is commonly used to treat medical conditions such as chronic migraines, masseter reduction, muscle spasms, and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in the underarms. BOTOX injections can provide relief by relaxing the muscles that cause migraines and reducing their frequency and severity. For muscle spasms, BOTOX can help alleviate discomfort by blocking the nerve signals that trigger involuntary contractions. Additionally, BOTOX is an effective solution for hyperhidrosis, as it can inhibit sweat gland activity and reduce excessive sweating. Whether for cosmetic or medical purposes, BOTOX offers a range of treatment options to improve quality of life and enhance overall well-being.

HOW BOTOX INJECTIONS WORK

Preparing For BOTOX

Before your BOTOX treatment, there are a few important steps to take. Firstly, it is essential to have a consultation with one of the experienced providers on our Long Island and NYC BOTOX team. During your consultation, you’ll discuss your medical history, including any allergies or previous cosmetic treatments and review your goals for BOTOX treatment.

Prior to your BOTOX injections, it’s important to avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements, such as aspirin or fish oil, a week before the procedure to minimize the risk of bruising. It’s also crucial to stay hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment. Lastly, come to your treatment with a clean face, free from makeup or skincare products, to ensure optimal results.

The BOTOX Treatment

The BOTOX treatment itself is a straightforward and relatively quick procedure. You will be comfortably seated during your cosmetic injections, and your licensed NYC BOTOX injector will cleanse the treatment area. Using a thin needle, small amounts of BOTOX will be strategically injected into the targeted muscles or wrinkles. The number of injections required will depend on your specific treatment goals. Most individuals experience minimal discomfort, often described as a slight pinching sensation. Since the entire procedure takes only 15-30 minutes, many of our patients choose to schedule their BOTOX injections during their lunch break. Though some patients may experience slight bruising near the injection site, this side effect should quickly dissipate. Most patients return to their normal daily lives immediately after leaving our office and experience no downtime at all.

BOTOX Recovery & Results

Following your Botox treatment, there is generally no downtime required. You may experience mild redness, swelling, or pinpoint bruising at the injection sites, but these effects are temporary and typically resolve within a few hours or days. It’s advised to avoid intense physical activity, excessive heat exposure, or massaging the treated area for the first 24 hours to prevent the migration of Botox to unintended muscles. For most patients, the effects of their BOTOX treatment can begin to be seen within just a couple of days. Results tend to last from three to six months and can be easily maintained with regularly scheduled follow-up treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions about BOTOX

Is BOTOX safe?

Yes, when administered by experienced and licensed professionals like the providers at Deep Blue Med Spa, BOTOX is safe and has been used for cosmetic purposes for many years.3

How long does BOTOX last?

BOTOX results typically last around 3-4 months but may last up to 6 months.4 The effects of BOTOX can vary from person to person.

Can BOTOX be combined with other treatments?

Yes, BOTOX can be combined with other cosmetic treatments like dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane to achieve more comprehensive rejuvenation and enhance your desired results.

Who is a good candidate for BOTOX?

BOTOX is a suitable treatment for individuals looking to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet. Ideal candidates for BOTOX are typically adults aged 18 and above, who have dynamic wrinkles caused by repetitive facial movements.5 They should be in good overall health, with no significant underlying health conditions that could interfere with the treatment.

What’s the difference between BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin?

BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin are all injectable neurotoxins used for cosmetic procedures, but they have some differences worth noting.6 BOTOX, also known as onabotulinumtoxinA, was the first FDA-approved neurotoxin for aesthetic use and has a long-standing track record. Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) has a smaller molecular size, allowing it to potentially spread more widely, making it suitable for treating larger areas. Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a newer option that contains only the active ingredient, without any additional proteins. This makes it a purer formulation, potentially reducing the risk of developing resistance to treatment. While the three products are similar in terms of their mechanism of action and efficacy, individual responses may vary.

How much does BOTOX cost?

The cost of BOTOX can vary depending on factors such as the number of units required, and any additional treatments or services performed at the same time. Generally, BOTOX is priced per unit, and the total cost of a BOTOX treatment session can vary widely, as the number of units needed varies depending on the treatment area and individual requirements. The best way to receive an accurate cost estimate is to consult with one of our licensed BOTOX providers who can assess your specific needs and provide a personalized quote.

How many units of BOTOX will I need?

The number of units of BOTOX needed can vary depending on several factors, including the number of areas of the face being treated, the severity of the facial wrinkles, and individual muscle strength. During your consultation, your Deep Blue Med Spa provider will evaluate your specific concerns and goals, assess the muscle dynamics, and recommend the appropriate dosage. Generally, smaller areas like crow’s feet may require around 8-20 units per side, while treating forehead lines might require 10-30 units. For frown lines between the eyebrows, the range can be around 20-40 units. Keep in mind that these are general estimates, and the actual number of units needed can vary for each individual.
