Dermaplaning

Are dry skin or fine hairs on the face preventing your makeup from sitting well? If so, dermaplaning may be the perfect treatment for you. As one of our most sought-after spa services, dermaplaning is designed to provide a smooth, gorgeous glow.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses physical exfoliation to remove dead skin and unwanted vellus hair. Vellus hair is the very fine hair that covers most of the body (what many of us call “peach fuzz”). During dermaplaning, a sterile scalpel is guided across the top layer of the skin. This removes dead skin cells and fine hair, revealing fresher, healthier-looking skin.

Benefits of Dermaplaning

  • Minimizes the appearance of fine lines
  • Reduces hyperpigmentation
  • Removes dry, dull skin
  • Requires no chemical exfoliants or agents
  • Enhances product absorption
  • Increases effectiveness of skincare
  • Safe for women who are pregnant or nursing

Who is a Candidate for Dermaplaning?

Most patients are candidates for dermaplaning, and it is helpful for a wide range of skin types. So many patients benefit from this treatment, including those with:

  • Dry, dull skin
  • Mild acne
  • Sun damage
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Unwanted vellus hair

Dermaplaning: What to Expect

Preparing for Dermaplaning

Before the treatment begins, your medical aesthetician will properly cleanse and prepare your skin.

The Dermaplaning Procedure

A dermaplaning treatment takes about 30 minutes to complete and can be scheduled as an add on to a facial or a stand alone service.
During your dermaplaning session, your provider will gently glide a scalpel over your skin to remove dead cells and fine hairs. This procedure is not painful and the skin is not broken.
Following your dermaplaning treatment, your DBMS provider will apply appropriate skincare products to your skin. These will likely include serums and SPF.

Recovery After Dermaplaning

Little recovery time is necessary after dermaplaning. Your skin may be especially sensitive at first, but this will resolve naturally and quickly. To prevent hyperpigmentation, be sure to wear SPF 30+.
