Ultherapy® Skin Tightening

Page Updated:

What is Ultherapy?

Deep Blue Med Spa, overseen by the board-certified plastic surgeons at New York Plastic Surgery Group, is proud to offer patients in Long Island, Manhattan (NYC), and Garden City, New York, Ultherapy, a non-surgical alternative to reduce signs of aging and smooth facial wrinkles. Ultherapy— sometimes referred to as Ulthera—is a cosmetic enhancement technique that does not require surgery or extensive recovery time. This non-invasive cosmetic procedure uses focused ultrasound energy to stimulate new collagen growth in the skin. Often touted as a “non-surgical facelift”, Ultherapy is the only FDA-approved device intended to lift and tighten sagging skin on the face, neck, and chest.

During an Ultherapy treatment session, ultrasound technology targets the skin’s foundational tissues without damaging the surface layer. This triggers the body’s natural healing response, increasing collagen production and resulting in significantly firmer, tighter skin over time. 1

What Areas Can Be Treated With Ultherapy?

Facial Rejuvenation with Ultherapy

For individuals seeking a non-invasive solution to address sagging skin, wrinkles, and fine lines on the face, Ultherapy offers an effective option. After treatment, patients can expect to see improvements in facial contours and skin texture over the following months.

Neck Tightening with Ultherapy

The neck is a common area of concern for individuals experiencing skin laxity and the appearance of a “turkey neck”. Ultherapy offers a non-surgical solution for tightening loose skin and improving the neck’s contour. Ultherapy also offers patients a firmer, more defined neck profile as the skin gradually lifts and tightens.

Décolletage Rejuvenation with Ultherapy

For women concerned about fine lines, wrinkles, and minor skin laxity on their décolletage, Ultherapy can help. Recently FDA-cleared for this area, Ultherapy offers a trusted way to revitalize the decolletage for a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance.

Preparing For Ultherapy

Before undergoing Ultherapy, patients are typically advised to avoid certain medications, such as aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs, that can increase the risk of bruising. It’s also recommended to cleanse the treatment area thoroughly and arrive with clean, makeup-free skin. Discussing any medical conditions, allergies, or medications with the healthcare provider beforehand is important to ensure a safe and effective procedure.

How is Ultherapy Performed?

During an Ultherapy session, patients can expect to lie comfortably on a treatment bed while the provider uses a handheld device to deliver focused ultrasound energy to the targeted areas. The procedure typically lasts between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Patients may feel tingling, warmth, or prickling sensations as the ultrasound energy is delivered, but discomfort is usually minimal. Some areas may be treated multiple times to ensure comprehensive coverage and optimal results. Most patients do not require downtime after Ultherapy treatment – you will likely be able to resume normal daily routines immediately after the procedure. You should see results continue to improve over the next two to three months, as the collagen continues to replenish itself and the skin gradually tightens.

The device is suitable for: Aesthetics − Pre-hospital use (ambulance), and − In-hospital use (ER, Labor and Delivery etc.)

Recovery After Ultherapy

Following Ultherapy, patients can generally resume their normal activities immediately, as there is typically no downtime associated with the procedure. However, some individuals may experience mild redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated areas, which usually subsides within a few hours to a few days. Results are not immediate, as collagen production takes time, so gradual improvement in skin laxity and firmness can be expected over several months.

FAQs About Ultherapy

Is Ultherapy painful?

How long does an Ultherapy treatment session take?

The duration of an Ultherapy session depends on the areas being treated. Generally, a treatment session lasts between 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the extent of the treatment.

Are there any side effects or downtime associated with Ultherapy?

Mild side effects such as redness, swelling, tingling, or tenderness may occur after the procedure, but these usually subside within a few hours to a few days. Unlike surgical procedures, there is minimal to no downtime with Ultherapy, and patients can typically resume their normal activities immediately after treatment.

When will I see results from Ultherapy?

Some patients may notice immediate tightening and lifting effects following the treatment, but the full results of Ultherapy typically develop gradually over several months as the body’s natural collagen production increases. Results can continue to improve for up to six months after the procedure.

How long do the results of Ultherapy last?

The results of Ultherapy are long-lasting,3 as the treatment stimulates the body’s natural collagen production. While individual results may vary, many patients enjoy the benefits of Ultherapy for up to 1-2 years or more.

Who is a good candidate for Ultherapy?

Generally, individuals with mild to moderate skin laxity who are looking to lift and tighten their skin without cosmetic surgery may be good candidates for Ultherapy.

Is Ultherapy safe?

Ultherapy is FDA-cleared and considered a safer alternative to plastic surgery procedures like facelifts and an effective treatment for skin tightening and lifting. However, as with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and considerations to discuss with your provider before undergoing treatment.

Can I combine any other procedures with Ultherapy?

Yes, Ultherapy can be combined with other non-invasive procedures such as Botox, fillers, skincare regimens, chemical peels, and laser treatments to enhance overall aesthetic results. This comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation allows for addressing multiple concerns simultaneously, including wrinkles, volume loss, skin tone, and texture. However, it’s essential to schedule a consultation to ensure that the combination of treatments is suitable for your specific needs and goals. Our providers have years of experience with cosmetic treatments designed to improve the surface of the skin and can tailor a personalized treatment plan for optimal safety and efficacy.
